Fairies

Song History

This song was inspired by faith. What is faith? Faith is believing and placing one’s hope in something or someone else. Faith is the power to keep one’s eyes fixed on the goal even when the goal cannot be seen! The fairies in the story ofCaptured represent faith to a certain degree. Sometimes we have dreams for greatness that seem far beyond our limitations as humans – yet we somehow muster the faith to believe anyway! If we limited ourselves to believing only what we could see would mankind ever invent or create anything? Having faith is a good thing. Where we place our faith can mean the difference between life and death. Be careful where you place your faith.

Dennis Jernigan

Verse

Fairies tend to vary and can have quite an attitude

Some can be quite merry

Some can practice less than gratitude

Mischievous and magical and more than a mystery

Bringing good from tragical and leaving quite a history.

Oh! Oh! Who can tame a fairy?

Oh! Oh! This will never be!

Oh! Oh! Who can claim a fairy?

Oh! Oh! And catch what can’t be seen?

Chorus

Oh! Lucky if I see one!

Oh! Fairy! Fairy Fay!

Oh! Lucky if I meet one!

What a simply wonderful day!

Verse

Flitting through the forest in the grand land of Make Believe

Or are the things we hope exist a part of true reality?

Something there to guide me in the grand land of In-Between

Between the realm of what I see and what I think that I can dream!

Oh! Oh! Who can tame a fairy?

Oh! Oh! This will never be!

Oh! Oh! Who can claim a fairy?

Oh! Oh! And catch what can’t be seen?

Chorus

Oh! Lucky if I see one!

Oh! Fairy! Fairy Fay!

Oh! Lucky if I meet one!

What a simply wonderful day!

Jidgel! Jidgel!

Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan

Song History

The name for this character was invented by my son, Judah, when he was just a boy. He is one of the most creative people I know. One of Judah’s funniest ideas was the way he spoke about what he would call his one-day children. He told me that when he had a son he would call him Jidgel! I never forgot that and decided that this character’s name had to be Jidgel. Jidgel represents self-reliance and personal responsibility…and also a form of wisdom. Jidgel lives alone and fends for himself in the swamp, daring to live where others fear to tread. As a result, he sees through the trappings of government and superficiality of mankind and evokes a sense of accepting people just because of who they are and not for what they can do for him. Leonolis trusts him quickly once he discerns the wisdom coming from this feisty little man. Jidgel was one of my favorite characters to write. Young men and women, don’t hold others responsible for your attitudes and lot in life. Hold yourself responsible and walk as one who is responsible. Don’t blame others for your misfortunes. Learn to make something beautiful even out of the misfortune just as Jidgel saw beauty in a place most others in the Kingdom avoided.

Dennis Jernigan

Verse

Man of the swamp

Man of the fen

Man of the water and reed

Man of his word

Man among men

Meeter of shelter and need

Chorus

Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout

Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?

Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!

Tell me what life is about, to you!

Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!

Show me the way to get through!

Verse

Eater of fish

Drinker of wine

Shorter than average men

Taller in heart!

Taller in mind!

Defender of truth, you’re his friend!

Chorus

Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout

Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?

Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!

Tell me what life is about, to you!

Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!

Show me the way to get through!

Bridge

I can go around but I’d rather go through!

I think that’s what you would do!

Tell me what I know that I know to be true!

Show me the way to get through!

Chorus

Jidgel! Jidgel, curmudgeon short and stout

Jidgel! Jidgel, what is life about?

Lacketyloo! Didgeridoo!

Tell me what life is about, to you!

Lolligoligh! Lolligoloo!

Show me the way to get through!
